RECOMMENDATION

Authorize the County Elections Department to conduct a Special Election in the City of Shasta Lake on August 29, 2017 as requested by the City of Shasta Lake Resolution CC 17-23.

DISCUSSION

Per California Elections Code Section 10002, elections called by municipalities may, by resolution, request that the county elections official conduct the election.  On April 18, 2017, the City of Shasta Lake (City) City Council passed and amended Resolution CC 17-23 to request the Shasta County Board of Supervisors permit the Shasta County Elections Department to conduct a special election for the City on August 29, 2017. 

 

Copy of the resolution received in this office from the City is on file with the County Clerk.


ALTERNATIVES

The Board could choose not allow the County Clerk/Registrar of Voters to conduct the election. This is not recommended as the City does not own voting equipment and has historically relied on the County to provide these services for reimbursement of actual costs.


OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT

County Counsel has reviewed the recommendation. The County Administrative Office has also reviewed the recommendation. 


FINANCING

There is no anticipated additional impact on the County General Fund with the adoption of this resolution as the City will pay for the actual cost of holding the election.
