DISCUSSIONShasta County roads have sustained six million dollars in damage this winter. The Sheriff has also incurred some emergency response costs. The damage exceeds our available local resources. Federal and State assistance is potentially available. Major disasters are jointly funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the State Office of Emergency Services (OES). FEMA generally pays 75% of disaster-related costs. OES pays up to 18% and the local agency pays the remaining 7%. Local officials shall be designated to sign grant applications and related documents. The proposed resolution would so designate the Sheriff, Public Works Director and County Executive Officer.
