Public Defender HVAC Renovation Project – Award Construction Contract

RECOMMENDATION

Award to the low bidder, High Efficiency Solutions, Inc. d.b.a. Timberline Heating and Air Conditioning, on a lump sum basis, the contract for the “Public Defender Building HVAC Renovation Project,” Contract No. 610435, in the amount of $150,767.

SUMMARY

The low bidder on the Public Defender HVAC Project is High Efficiency Solutions, Inc. dba Timberline Heating and Air Conditioning.

DISCUSSION

The Public Defender’s office roof leaks.  Several roof-mounted air conditioning units are near the end of their service lives and may be the source of the leaks.  Staff recommends replacing the units and the roofing immediately underneath.  A full roofing project may follow if the leaks continue. On February 2, 2017, three bids were received and opened.  The low bidder was High Efficiency Solutions, Inc. dba Timberline Heating and Air Conditioning, in the amount of $150,767.

ALTERNATIVES

The Board may decline to award a contract at this time.  The HVAC units must be removed to replace the roof.

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT

The Public Defender’s Office supports the project. County Counsel has approved the contract documents as to form.  Risk Management has reviewed and approved the contract documents.  The County Administrative Office has reviewed this recommendation.

FINANCING

The total cost of this project is estimated to be $210,000.  Adequate funds have been included in the Adopted 2016/17 LB&I budget.  There is no additional General Fund impact.
