RECOMMENDATION

Appoint Steven Kerns (District 3 appointment) to the Shasta County Planning Commission for a four-year term to expire January 2021.

DISCUSSION

The Shasta County Planning Commission is  composed of five members. The term of Eugene Parham (District 3) has expired.  Supervisor Rickert has recommended appointment of Steven Kerns for four-year term, expiring January 2021.

Per Shasta County Code section 2.48.030 Planning Commission Membership-Appointment; "Each member of the Board of Supervisors shall nominate for appointment or propose for reappointment to the commission, one member of the public, who shall be a resident of the district represented by that Supervisor. " When a supervisor is proposing the appointment to the commission, a nomination is required.  Supervisor Rickert nominated Steven Kerns to fill the vacancy on the Shasta County Planning Commission at the January 10, 2017 Board of Supervisor's Meeting.

ALTERNATIVES

The Board could choose not to reappoint Mr. Kerns and seek other qualified candidates.
