| | | | | | | | RECOMMENDATION
Adopt a proclamation which designates April 1-8, 2023, as “Week of the Young Child” in Shasta County. |
| | | | | | | | DISCUSSION
The Week of the Young Child (WOYC) is an annual celebration of young children that takes place every April in Shasta County and in communities across the nation. WOYC recognizes how the early years of childhood form a foundation for children’s success in school and in life. A new collection of events and activities is available each year for children, families, and all community members to enjoy.
The WOYC was established in 1971 by the National Association for the Education of Your Children (NAEYC), the world’s largest early childhood education association. The NAEYC identifies one week in April for communities to develop unique, local celebrations, all united for the purpose of 1) Bringing public attention to the needs of young children and their families and 2) Recognizing the early childhood programs, services, and investments that meet those needs.
