RECOMMENDATION

Appoint Vince DeCoito to the Pine Grove Mosquito Abatement District to serve a two-year term to January 6, 2025.

DISCUSSION

The Pine Grove Mosquito Abatement District (District) is a mosquito abatement independent special district created by order of the Shasta County Board of Supervisors on April 7, 1931. It is governed by a five-member Board of Trustees (Board), each serving a term of two years commencing at noon on the first Monday in January.

One position on the Board has been vacant since January 3, 2022, when the previous Board member's term expired and they chose not to be reappointed.  The District issued a Notice of Vacancy, and on April 15, 2022, Vince DeCoito sent a letter of interest.  On April 21, 2022, the Board recommended the appointment of Vince DeCoito to the vacant Board seat.  He is a registered voter and resident of the District.

ALTERNATIVES

The Board may decline to make the appointment and direct staff to post another Notice of Vacancy.

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT

The District approves the recommended action.  County Counsel and the County Administrative Office have reviewed the recommendations.

FISCAL IMPACT

Costs associated with processing committee and commission appointments are included in the Clerk of the Board's approved budget.
