RECOMMENDATION

Adopt a proclamation which designates May 2018 as “Community Action Month” in Shasta County.

SUMMARY

Approval of this recommendation would proclaim the month of May 2018 as Community Action Month and declare the County’s support of the Community Action Agency.

DISCUSSION

Each May, the Community Action Agencies across the United States are supported by the National Community Action Partnership to reach out to local mayors and county officials to request the designation of May as Community Action Month.  The nation’s 1000-plus Community Action Agencies are a robust, state and local force – reaching children and families in ninety-nine (99%) percent of America’s counties with life changing services that create pathways to prosperity.  These agencies connect individuals and families to approaches that help them succeed, promote community-wide solutions to difficult challenges and share expertise with national, state, and local leaders looking to promote greater economic opportunity for all.

ALTERNATIVES

The Board could choose not to adopt the proclamation or choose a different month to recognize Community Action Month.  This is not recommended, as May is recognized nationally as Community Action Month.

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT

The County Administrative Office has reviewed the recommendation.

FINANCING

There is no additional General Fund impact with the approval of the recommendation.
