RECOMMENDATION

Take the following actions regarding the Shasta Children and Families Commission, also known as First 5 Shasta:  (1) Appoint Dianna Wagner as the Health and Human Services Agency Director's designee to a three-year term to expire January 2021; and (2) reappoint Dr. Andrew Deckert to a three-year term to expire January 2021.

SUMMARY

The Board of Supervisors considers making appointments and reappointments to various committees, commissions, and boards when terms of office are expiring or vacancies exist.

DISCUSSION

The Shasta Children and Families Commission (Commission), also known as First 5 Shasta, is a seven-member Commission appointed by the Board of Supervisors comprised of three County representatives and four community representatives pursuant to Shasta County Code 2.65, Shasta County Children and Families Commission.

According to Shasta County Code (SCC) Section 2.65.030, subsection A.2., one member shall be the County Health Officer; thus reappointment of Dr. Deckert is recommended as supported by the Commission.

According to SCC Section 2.65.030, subsection A.3., one member shall be the Director of the County Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA), or his/her designee; thus appointment of Dianna Wagner, HHSA-Children's Services Branch Director, to replace Donnell Ewert (HHSA Director) is recommended as supported by the Commission and Mr. Ewert.

On August 21, 2017, the Commission discussed two terms that expire in January 2018; the County Health Officer and the HHSA Director's terms. Dr. Deckert agreed to serve another three-year term and Mr. Ewert recommended Ms. Wagner to replace him. Minutes from the August 21, 2017 meeting of the Commission are attached.
