Government Code Section 1063 provides, in pertinent part, that no officer of a county shall absent himself from the State of California for more than 30 days unless with the consent of the Board of Supervisors.
County Counsel Rubin E. Cruse, Jr. was absent from the State of California from June 14, 2017 through July 22, 2017, a period of 39 days, due to the serious illness of his mother, who resided in the State of Michigan. |

The Board of Supervisors could decline to consent to the absence, which would then create a vacancy in the Office of County Counsel. |
