RECOMMENDATION

Approve and authorize the Chairman to sign the California Department of Public Health Application for Initial Clinical Laboratory License to notify and receive state approval for the new Shasta County Public Health Lab Director.

DISCUSSION

On November 27, 2016, the Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) Public Health Laboratory Directorship changed.  The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) was notified of this change and forwarded documentation that is required to be completed to finalize this change.  It is the intent of this request to obtain and complete the authorized signatures for this process.

California state law requires that the CDPH is notified upon change of ownership, laboratory director, name, or location.  The Initial Clinical Laboratory License application requires the signature of the owner or a person legally authorized to bind the owner of the laboratory. 

ALTERNATIVES

The Board could decline to authorize this change of laboratory directorship. This declination would result in a revocation of the HHSA Public Health Laboratory license to operate.

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT

County Counsel has reviewed the recommendation. The recommendation has been reviewed by the County Administrative Office.

FINANCING

There is no additional General Fund impact associated with approval of the recommendation.
