DISCUSSION

On August 23, 2016 the Board accepted donations totaling almost $7,500 from the Asphalt Cowboys, the Friends of Shasta County K-9, and the Eastern Shasta County Sheriff’s Flying Posse. These funds were donated for the Sheriff’s Office to purchase additional protective armor for deputy sheriff personnel.

These donations led to other community efforts to raise funds for additional protective equipment for the Sheriff’s Office and has resulted in small but collectively powerful donations from private individuals and businesses in the communities within Shasta County. Additionally, a We Back The Blue fund drive was held in concert with a local radio station to raise funds for law enforcement due to ongoing violence against peace officers. A total of $16,000 was presented to the Sheriff’s office for safety equipment from We Back The Blue through the Redding Peace Officers Association. It is recommended the Board accept these donations and approve the proposed budget amendment increasing appropriations $17,155 offset by the cumulative total of these additional donations.

ALTERNATIVES

The Board of Supervisor’s may decline to accept these donations.
